Pastoral Renewal & Focus Retreat This small gathering will help pastors focus on the future of their churches in the context of rapid socio-cultural changes. Pastors will learn about adaptive leadership in principles and practice from current pastoral leaders in the field. They will also have space and support from seasoned pastors to discern God’s guidance for their churches in solitude and community. CEP participating church pastors are also offered the opportunity to attend the renewal retreat immediately prior to the Focus retreat for personal spiritual renewal.
Contemporary Challenges Conference This is a one-day open, hybrid, bilingual*conference for all to learn about the four CEP selected social cultural challenges and respective Gospel opportunities. Track speakers will help participants understand the issues from social, cultural, biblical and theological perspectives. They will also provide ministry guidelines and pathways, church examples, and practical steps for participants to begin engaging the challenges as God’s people. *English & Mandarin simultaneous interpretation through zoom.
Leadership Empowerment Retreat This is a 3 day retreat where CEP enrolled church leadership team (5 members each church) will gather with all CEP faculty and pastors to explore in depth biblical and practical ways to respond to relevant challenges (from the CEP list) in their contexts. They will also have opportunities to integrate knowledge on adaptive leadership, congregational system, self-examination, spiritual practices into their mission and core values review process. Church leadership teams will engage in team building exercises and churches also have opportunities to interact with their peers in the cohort.
Church Site Leadership Training A pastoral facilitator will visit his designated CEP church over an extended weekend to provide encouragement, additional resources and training to a larger group of leaders at the church. The pastoral facilitator will check in with the congregational leadership on the progress of their mission and ministry planning integrating their new learning through CEP. The pastoral facilitator will also offer a 4 hour leadership training on healthy teams and other selected CEP topics based on the needs of the church.
Foundational Online Courses Two 8 hour newly developed online, asynchronous, self-paced, interactive short courses in this series aim at nurturing the spiritual and relational vitality of all congregational members. Connection with God and other believers is the source of empowerment to live as God’s people in a rapidly changing world with impact. These courses are available starting Oct of year 1. Each course is accessible to students for one month, duration of participation can be extended to two months as needed.
Leadership Empowerment Reunion Retreat A reunion of the Leadership Empowerment Retreat participants will be held early in year 2 for spiritual renewal, mutual encouragement and reinforcement of integration of learning from CEP into their church mission and ministries.
Exposure Online Courses This series of 4 online courses will educate believers on relevant social-cultural challenges, biblical and practical responses to them. These courses will provide further discussion and application on the topics highlighted at the conference and leadership empowerment retreat. Churches can select relevant courses based on needs. These courses are accessible in year 2 between Feb and June.
Engagement Online Courses This series of 4 online courses (8 hours each) are specifically designed to follow the Exposure courses to offer basic ministry skills training for believers in each of the target challenge areas. Churches or believers can register for TEE courses if they hope to receive more advanced training.
CEP is designed as a two year program for entire congregations to participate, where pastors,
leadership teams and congregations can all be empowered to engage contemporary
challenges in their contexts, live out the Gospel, thrive and impact their communities for Christ.
Each year a limited number of churches are selected to form a cohort group for two years.
Other churches, pastors and believers can also participate in select portions of CEP. Please
refer to the relevant option below for details.
